Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms do not last forever. Depending on the model and sensor, these devices commonly need to be replaced after seven to ten years. Once an alarm reaches its expiry date, it should be replaced promptly, even if it still appears to work normally.

Some of the largest manufacturers in this industry include Google Nest, First Alert, Kidde, and Ring. Unfortunately, Google has discontinued sales of the popular Nest Protect. Is the First Alert SC5 a Suitable Replacement?
