Why Ring Cameras Beat Old CCTV Systems

Traditional CCTV systems can still be effective, but older or poorly installed systems often create unnecessary wiring, exposed cables, bulky recorders and difficult applications. Cat 6 cable itself is not outdated, and a professionally designed wired camera system can provide excellent video quality. The problem is that many older installations use low resolution cameras, poor placement and a DVR or NVR hidden somewhere inside the property.

A local recorder can also become a single point of failure. If an intruder finds and removes or damages the DVR or NVR, the footage stored on it may disappear with the rest of the stolen property. Off site cloud storage reduces this risk because recorded video is not stored only inside the building. Security manufacturers also recommend backup or redundant storage when important footage must be protected.

Many basic CCTV systems simply record an incident. They may not actively discourage it.
